Animal Place: Non-profit of the Year!

For the last quarter-century, while in the shadows of other farmed animal sanctuaries, Animal Place has quielty gone about rehabiliting chickens, cows, goats, pigs, and sheep at two sanctuaries in Northern California: its original location in Vacaville, known today as Rescue Ranch; and a second, 600-acre property in Grass Valley, the largest such sanctuary in the country. Cofounder Kim Sturla and her dedicated staff continue to run a model operation that focuses as much on changing human minds as it does on rescuing former farmed animals. Animal Place serves as an education and advocacy center with programs that include Chicken Care Classes, an annual Thank the Turkeys feast, and the films The Emotional World of Farmed Animals and Turlock, to name just a few of the nonprofit’s many worthy efforts. On the occasion of its 25^th anniversary, VegNews honors the hard work, dedication, and accomplishments of Animal Place.
