Vegan and vegetarian dating service Veg Speed Date will expand to more than 20 cities in North America starting February 8. The company—which launched its website last week—will bring together singles to interact for two-hour events at veg-friendly bars, restaurants, and venues in cities such as San Francisco, Austin, and Miami, as well as several locations throughout Canada. Founder Karine Brighten tells VegNews that she was inspired to create the event—which she tested for five years in San Francisco, CA and Ottawa, Canada—after her friends expressed a lack of single vegan and vegetarian suitors. Brighten hopes her events will unite compassionate individuals and help them engage in animal advocacy together. “Veg Speed Date gives single vegans hope to find a like-minded partner who understands the struggles and also shares their love for animals, nutritional yeast, and vegan donuts,” Brighten says. Each event is limited to 30 people (of various age groups, genders, and sexual preferences) and the Veg Speed Date team hopes to expand event locations into more cities in March and beyond. In January, Brighten and her husband celebrated their 10-year vegan anniversary together
