Vegan Sesame Milk
Sesame seeds provide a boost of calcium in this DIY milk.
October 5, 2016
The real sesame flavor in this unique vegan milk is reminiscent of halva, that ultra-sweet Mediterranean dessert made from sesame paste. Plus, those little seeds are an unbelievable source of calcium, so drink up!
Makes 3 cups
What you need:
3 cups water
½ cup untoasted sesame seeds
2 tablespoons maple syrup or 2 pitted Medjool dates
1½ teaspoons vanilla
What you do:
1. Using a blender, blend the water, sesame seeds, maple syrup, and vanilla until smooth and frothy. For a silky milk consistency, strain the mixture through a nut milk bag or a few layers of cheesecloth over a bowl or milk container.
2. Squeeze gently to remove all the liquid. Store milk in a Mason jar in a refrigerator for up to 5 days. The milk might separate while sitting, so be sure to give the jar a shake before using.
